The following is the Newslinx article in May/June 2003 issue

This year, the two-day MWPGA State Championship will be held at MSU's Forest Akers West, in East Lansing on Saturday, August 16 and Sunday, August 17. Juniors will only play on Sunday. Combined scores from both days will be used to determine the final result. The overall low gross winner earns a spot in the GAM Tournament of Champions, held at Eqypt Valley Country Club, in Ada, on September 30. Kathy Netter was the 2002 Champion at Hunters Ridge with a two-day total of 140. Fran Hopp was the Senior Champion and Jean Murray was the Super Senior Champion.

As last year, Saturday's pairings will be based on individual handicaps by flight, with lower handicap players teeing off first. Sunday's pairings will be based on Saturday's scores, with the lower scorers in each flight teeing off last. Prizes will be awarded, with gift certificates going to the top gross and net finishers in each flight, and to the medallists. Players will also be able to participate in the standard MWPGA games (longest drive, closest to the pin, chip-ins and gross skins; see the MWPGA Tournaments Guidelines for details.)

Forest Akers West has a new club house, pro shop and banquet facility located at the southwest side of the course. The new entrance is located a mile south of Mt. Holly Rd on Forest Rd.   Forest Akers has a state of the art practice facility, two 18-hole golf courses, and two pro shops. Our State Championship has always attracted the most highly ranked and accomplished golfers in the State, while offering a pleasurable and competitive experience for amateur women golfers of all skill levels. Forest Akers West, with a four-star rating from Golf Digest, and rated 6th in the state by the Detroit News, is an ideal location for our Championship. We really hope you are planning to participate.

The entry fee, including a cart both days, is $140 for members and $160 for non-members. For those choosing to walk, the entry fee is $112 for members and $132 for non-members. Juniors will pay $57 for their one-day event, which does not include a cart. Included in the cost are greens fees, range balls, lunch on Sunday, and awards and prizes. Tee times will start at 8:30 AM, as a crossover, on both days.
